Vale – Max Walker – Australian Cricket Legend

Max Walker, AM, has died aged 68 after a two-year battle with cancer.

max-walkerKnown by Australians for his cricketing prowess, football ability and overall sports knowledge, ‘Tangles’ or ‘Tang’ as he was known played a key role in modernizing the games in Australia and achieving much by way of corporate interest and public support.

His laid back unique Aussie style saw him loved by generations.

Max Walker was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2011.

Born in Hobart, he was a gifted sportsman who was recruited by Melbourne as a ruckman/defender.

He played 85 games with the Demons between 1967-72 before his cricket career took over.

In 34 Tests between 1972-77 he took 138 wickets at 27.27 and scored 586 runs at 19.53, including an undefeated 78 off 84 balls in his final Test innings at The Oval in August, 1977.
