Rest area Upgrade – Peak Downs Highway

Work begins this week on a $1.3 million rest area on the Peak Downs Highway to improve fatigue management options for transport operators and a well-appointed rest point for all motorists.

rest areaMinister for Main Roads and Road Safety Mark Bailey says the rest stop near the Wuthung Road intersection, between Moranbah and Clermont, is being upgraded to accommodate heavy vehicles.

“Designated heavy vehicle rest areas play a vital role in the safety of all road users.”

The facilities will also provide a safe place for motorists and families to take a break from driving.

This upgrade will include the construction of toilet facilities and shaded seating.

The need for this upgrade was identified through consultation with the Road Accident Action Group and heavy vehicle operators.

An average of four direct jobs will be supported over the life of the project.

Construction is expected to be completed later this month, weather permitting.
