NQ Regional Planning Committee Gathers in Ingham

Charters Towers Mayor Liz Schmidt is in Ingham to join with her counterparts from Burdekin, Hinchinbrook, Palm Island and Townsville as well as local members of parliament.

north qld 2It’s a high-level meeting to focus on progress with North Queensland’s first ever regional plan.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Jackie Trad says it was vital to have the regional plan in place to help maximize future opportunities and respond to challenges.

“The North Queensland Regional Plan (NQRP) is about having a clear direction for the entire region for the next 25 years.”

In welcoming the committee to Ingham, Hinchinbrook Mayor Ramon Jayo, says the promise of a prosperous regional future could only be realized through collaboration.

“The five councils of North Queensland have come together as one and with the State Government’s leadership, we will have a clear path for years to come.”

“This will guide how our children and their children will live, work and play in North Queensland.”

The final North Queensland Regional Plan is expected to be released in early next year.
