One of Ravenswood parks is receiving a make over in the form of mosaic art work on the parks tables and chairs.

The mosaic work has been approved by Charters Towers Regional Council and will be the work of artists involved in the Animating Spaces Project that will occur in Ravenswood in March.

Artists involved in the Animating Spaces Project will create their mosaics on existing tables and chairs in the park opposite the Ravenswood Post Office.

Councillor Barbara Robinson, whose portfolio responsibilities include art and culture, says she is delighted with the proposal.

“The staging of the Animating Spaces Project at Ravenswood this year is quite a coup for our historic township,” says Cr Robinson.

“With the calibre of the artists involved in this project, I believe this mosaic art work will leave quite a legacy for both locals and visitors to enjoy.”

Council has given approval for the artists to create the mosaic work on existing tables and chairs in the park. It is envisaged that the mosaics will depict the history and flora and fauna of Ravenswood.

Councillors will visit Ravenswood on Sunday, 8 March to meet the artists and the project coordinators and to celebrate the beginning of the Ravenswood Animating Spaces Project.

Animating Spaces is a state-wide multi-arts initiative which will revitalise and celebrate significant or unusual spaces within regional communities through locally driven arts activities and events.
