It’s time to Get Ready North Queensland!

North Queensland residents are being encouraged to prepare for storm season this Get Ready Queensland Week (8-14 October).

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick says North Queensland communities should be prepared for whatever Mother Nature has in store this summer.

“As Queenslanders, we are all too familiar with natural disasters and it is often not a matter of ‘if’ but when disaster strikes.

“Experience has shown us that communities that are well prepared and supported before a disaster occurs are more resilient and able to recover faster.”

North Queensland councils have planned a range of Get Ready Queensland activities and initiatives in 2018-19, including:
• Charters Towers Regional Council will post out Get Ready information kits to remote residential properties and providing business continuity sessions for various community groups and businesses in the region
• Hinchinbrook Shire Council to purchase a Smart Pad Panel for the Local Disaster Management Group that will assist in preparing, responding and recovering from natural disasters
• Burdekin Shire Council will install an emergency dashboard sign at Plantation Park and hosting an information stall at the Harvest Festival in November
