International Mega Star Sir Elton John will hold his only two Queensland Concerts this year in North and Far North Queensland, with the State Government joining forces with local councils to bring the legend of 40 years of rock and pop to Mackay and to Cairns.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk today announced the concerts with zeal.
She says the two concerts are expected to attract crowds of more than 24,000 people and inject up to $7.5 million into the Queensland economy.
“Bringing one of the world’s biggest names in music to Mackay and Cairns is a major win for this region, particularly the local tourism industry.”
The move has the noses of many Townsville-ite’s out of joint.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill says she is disappointed Sir Elton John will skip Townsville on his tour, but says she has been told it’s all down to the superstar’s preference rather than any issue with the city.
