Watch for the early State election announcement.
That’s what the cynics are saying as the Premier uses her Western Queensland trip to open the purse and announce an earlier start to regional funding programs.
Councils will have access to the $70 million the Queensland Government’s Building Our Regions sooner the Premier has announced from Roma.
Round three of Building Our Regions would open on January 30 with funds allocated by mid-year.
The Premier says thriving regional communities are an important part of keeping our economy ticking over.
“We’ve brought forward the opening of Round 3 of Building our Regions to generate more jobs and provide a boost to local economies. I want to see councils across the state looking at their shovel-ready infrastructure projects and putting in their application for a share of this $70 million.”
Applications were due to have opened mid-year with allocations expected in 2018.
The Premier says she is keen to get it moving now.
“By opening the funding round sooner and streamlining the approvals process, we’ll be able to get the money out the door sooner and support more jobs for regional Queenslanders sooner.”
Councils would have four weeks from January 30 to submit expressions of interest, which will be due on 24 February.
EOIs will be shortlisted and councils will then prepare detailed submissions for shortlisted projects.
